When her teenage son committed suicide after completing a 3 month alcohol rehabilitation program, Joan Mathews Larson turned her devastating loss into a search for answers. Why had conventional treatment failed her son? Why has understanding alcoholism as a disease grown, while the advances in treatment have not? Through painstaking study, Dr. Larson found answers and initiated a revolutionary treatment program that has become the most successful model ever developed for this disease.

The purpose of this newsletter is to bring awareness to the new option for treatment that Dr. Larson has pioneered at Health Recovery Center. On the 21st anniversary of her sons suicide, Dr. Larson wants to congratulate all those who have read and followed her book to sobriety. In keeping with her quest to understand underlying symptoms through bio-chemistry, Dr. Larson explains some interesting facts about a newly synthesized hormone, Melatonin.

Melatonin: The Miricle Hormone for Sleep. alcoholism treatment intervention nutrition holistic craving depression anxiety suicide AA Alcoholics Anonymous natural healing brain chemistry hypoglycemia memory smoking stress shakiness drug abuse anger

To solve the never ending search for a good night's sleep, Americans have long reached for addictive sleeping pills, providing drug companies with a multi-million dollar business. Now, with the discovery of melatonin, a non-addictive sleeping agent that works better and safer than drugs, the bedtime drugging of America may finally end.

Melatonin is a hormone made in the pineal gland. For many years scientists had no idea what this pea size gland was for. Studies from around the world are now finding multiple functions. The British journal "Lancet" has published a study that shows a statistical correlation between the level of pineal melatonin and the declining occurrence of breast cancer. Blind women who generally have high levels of melatonin circulating, have a low occurrence of breast cancer. Melatonin affects the prostate! Studies have proven that melatonin dramatically reduces the growth rate of prostate cancer in experiments on laboratory animals.

For insomniacs, melatonin's role as a sleeping agent is nothing short of a miracle. According to Dr. Richard Wurtman, professor of neuro-science at MIT, small doses of melatonin quickly stimulates natural sleep without the narcotic effects of drugs. Dr. Wurtman is a million share owner of The Interneuron Corporation which has obtained the rights for the patent application to reclassify melatonin as a drug. Dr. Wurtman is often featured in print articles or TV interviews expressing his viewpoint that melatonin must be reclassified as a drug. Melatonin is a natural substance-not a drug! We can only hope that Wurtman's greed will not rob us of the right to obtain melatonin at an inexpensive, free market price, without an M.D.'s prescription.

Now for some good news. At Bio-Recovery Center, the long awaited 3 mg melatonin has arrived. What makes it superior is its time-released feature to insure that you not only fall asleep, but stay asleep.
Since nothing is perfect for all people, please consider who should not take melatonin:

At the Health Recovery Center, melatonin has been incorporated into the detox formula for the past two years. It has solved the dilemma of not having tryptophan available. Dr. Joan Larson says melatonin has worked wonders in restoring sound restful sleep to her recovering population.

A Word About Bio-Recovery. alcoholism treatment intervention nutrition holistic craving depression anxiety suicide AA Alcoholics Anonymous natural healing brain chemistry hypoglycemia memory smoking stress shakiness drug abuse anger

Bio-Recovery was not formed to compete with vitamin stores. Rather, we exist to provide an inexpensive, highly effective alternative to traditional treatment centers. Our company is the direct result of an overwhelming response to Dr. Larson's do-it -yourself treatment program as outlined in her book, Seven Weeks to Sobriety.

Self-administered treatment has proved to have tremendous appeal, however it can also be a complicated undertaking. When people first read Seven Weeks to Sobriety they usually want to obtain the nutrients necessary for Step 1, the Detox Formula. Questions soon arise: do expensive products work better than the cheap stuff; are capsules better than tablets; are hypoallergenic, pharmaceutical grade products superior to non-hypoallergenic; are chelated minerals better than regular minerals; is Ester© C superior to regular C; etc.? Then there's the problem of finding products that match the doses prescribed in Dr. Larson's book. We decided to simplify matters by letting people get their formulas directly from the pioneers of bio-chemical restoration, Health Recovery Center in Minneapolis.

Health Recovery center has been operating for 17 years. They're in tune with the latest nutritional research and they've seen which nutrients perform most effectively on their own clients. Unlike a general nutrition store, these nutrients are selected on performance, not profit potential. HRC is a treatment center. Their clients pay thousands of dollars to get better. Since nutrients comprise a small fraction of the overall cost of treatment (approximately $400.00) it behooves HRC to use the most effective products available. When HRC found itself overwhelmed with inquires from readers of Dr. Larson's book, a new company was needed.

That's how Bio-Recovery came to be. Bio-Recovery is not just another distributor of vitamins. Bio-Recovery is a service, passing along the years of nutritional wisdom acquired at Health Recovery Center to those who don't want or can't afford formal treatment, but still need HRC's bio-chemical knowledge incorporated into their recovery efforts.

As for the price of our formulas. Bio-Recovery has consistently marked its inventory well below the manufacturer's suggested retail price. In addition, "Dr.Larson" brand items (used in the 3 primary formulas: Detox, Adjusted Nutrients, and Maintenance) pass along even greater price reductions. Considering the quality of these products, it would be very difficult to find a better supplement value for your money.

Finally, it's important to remember, when new research is incorporated at Health Recovery Center, it gets passed along to Bio-Recovery's customers. We take time to answer your questions, sometimes referring the more difficult ones over to the center. You can't buy that kind of service at health food stores.

We wish you all a quick and happy return to sobriety with all the joys of a healthy life.
